Welcome

With all of the hype around round one of the MX Nationals, all we can say is that it well and truly lived up to expectation!

The Albury-Wodonga club did a fantastic job to prepare for such a high profile national event. I know many of the committee, club members and event volunteers so a big shout out to all of you. The hours you put into that circuit definitely paid off and made for an awesome day.

We had three GMR Motorex KTM team members racing at the event, with Kristy Gillespie on the Pro Lite grid as well as Dylan Long and Jay Wilson competing in the 85cc support class which also doubled as the Australian Junior World Team qualifier.

GMR Motorex KTM racers walked away from the event having achieved many personal goals and took with them some outstanding results.

In the 12-u16 years 85cc support class, Dylan Long and Jay Wilson were outstanding and definitely turned the head’s of some of the senior teams and riders. Both boys put in really strong performances and picked up two podium finishes, a 1st and 3rd respectively.

This class attracted the best 85cc riders in the country, all vying for a place on the squad for the World Junior Championships to be held at Taupo, New Zealand in August. The results from this event will support each rider’s application for the squad.

Kristy collected a 36th overall in the Pro Lites from a 40 gate grid. This is the best of the best out there competing in this class and Kristy really held her own. Not only was it one of her strongest displays of racing in terms of technique and speed, but she also beat a few of the boys across the line.

To top it off, Kristy attracted a huge amount of mainstream media coverage which is not only a bonus for women’s racing, but motocross as a whole – getting motocross into people’s lounge rooms. Kristy was featured on WIN TV as well as a huge photo and article in the Herald Sun, weekend sports section.

Kristy, Dylan and Jay also attended a meet and greet at Wodonga KTM along with their senior counterparts Tye Simmonds, Kade Mosig and Jason Reed.

The atmosphere was awesome in the lead up and at the event and we took plenty of photos which you can check out here>>

Our full report on the event can be accessed via the link below.

Until next time, stay safe!
