GMR Motorex KTM racer Mitchell Evans claims Mini Lites QLD Motocross Championship
KTM’s Mitchell Evans has secured the 2012 12-13 years Mini Lites Queensland Motocross Championship. The stand-alone event was hosted at the Gum Valley circuit in Queensland on the weekend of 9-11 June. The natural terrain, flowing circuit became extremely rough over the course of the event making for intense racing conditions.
With a year of experience under his belt, Evans was keen to ensure he stood on the podium for the 12-13 years Mini Lites in 2012 and was able to capitalize on his consistency with 3-2-2-2-1 race results to ultimately claim the Championship.
“I was a bit disappointed with my opening moto and made some changes for the next few to keep me in the points’ said Evans ‘It’s a bitter sweet win because I would love to have won all or a few more motos, but in the end my consistency paid off for the overall.”
GMR Motorex KTM teammate Reece Rayner was recently injured in a racing incident causing a severe gash to his head. Reece was aiming to place top five in the hotly contested 12-13 years Mini Lites class and achieved his goal with 5th overall.
“Consistency paid off for Mitch this weekend and in doing so he has claimed yet another State Championship to add to his resume. In recent weeks he elected to concentrate on his training in the lead up to this event, forgoing a number of race events and the choice has paid off. Mitch was able to handle the intensity required on the rough circuit and his fitness came into play toward the conclusion of the event.
Everyone at GMR Motorex KTM and all our associated sponsors congratulate Mitch on yet another fantastic result.
Reece also achieved his goal of placing top five and although he found the track and competition challenging, he enjoyed the event and came home with a solid result.”
Meanwhile, GMR Motorex KTM teammates Callum Norton and Egan Mastin have continued their domination of respective State Motocross Championship series.
Norton took the third round win at Outrim in South East Victoria, consolidating his points lead in the 9-u12 years 85cc-150F class. Norton now leads by points heading into the final round of the Victorian Motocross Championship. Fellow teammate Andy Dinicol is placed 5th and 4th in the 13-u16 years 125-150cc and 250F classes respectively.
Mastin took dual wins again at the NSW Championships, this time at round two at Lakes NSW, in both the 13-14 years 125-1500cc and 250F classes. Mastin won five of six races contested over the weekend, consolidating his earlier clean sweep at the opening round of competition. One round of the Championship remains where Mastin hopes to claim dual titles.
