A perfect score card for Egan Mastin at NSW MX Championships series opener
The New South Wales Motocross Championships kicked off at the impressive Moree circuit on 7-9 April 2012 and saw Egan Mastin in devastatingly good form at the series opener.
Mastin kicked off his campaign in the 13-u15 year old 125-150cc and 250F classes with six straight wins, claiming the round win in both classes.
Mastin won the 12-13 years 85cc NSW Motocross Championship and was runner up in the 13-u15 years 125-150cc class for 2011. In 2012, Mastin will contest the Championship on his KTM150SX hoping to go one better and claim the number one plate and has also stepped up onto the KTM250SXF for his first season of competition.
“The track was mad!’ said Mastin “I love racing here at Moree so to pick up six straight wins was pretty awesome. I am glad to get a good start on the Championship. My lap times were good, but there a couple of things I think I can improve on.”
Also racing at the event was Reece Rayner from Queensland in the super-competitive 12-u14 years 85cc class.
“I was a bit disappointed I didn’t get a podium here, but I got a 3rd in moto one and a 2nd in moto three which was pretty good considering my starts weren’t the best’ said Rayner ‘A mechanical issue meant I couldn’t start race two, but I still got 6th overall for the event and am only a few points off the top three.”
Team Manager Glenn Macdonald said “Egan is in devastatingly good form at the moment. The step he has made onto the bigger bikes is nothing short of impressive and his results at Moree with a clean sweep in both his classes, speaks for itself. With ongoing results like this and a touch of luck, Egan will be eying off dual titles in NSW this season.”
Macdonald went on to add “Reece is doing well in his first season on the big-wheel, but has a little bit more work to do on his starts to make sure that he is up the front early. To be running just inside the top ten in the opening stages and making his way to 3rd and 2nd places at this level is impressive, however to maximize his chances for a win he will need to be up front early.”
The next major race meeting for the GMR Motorex KTM racers will be the MX Nationals on 29 April at Wonthaggi (VIC) where they will be competing in various support classes.
