Impressive day for Carter & Norton at VIC Junior MX Championship, Colac

The Victorian Junior Motocross Championship series arrived at Colac in south west Victoria on the weekend of 25 & 26 May 2013 and saw impressive performances for both Wayde Carter and Callum Norton.

The KTM racers both scored podium results, Carter claiming 1st overall in the premier 250F class and runner-up in the two-strokes, while Norton claimed a solid 2nd overall in the 12-u16 years 85cc.

“Carter rode with his trademark speed and style all weekend’ said Team Manager Glenn Macdonald “The only dent on his way to a clean sweep of all six races this weekend was an uncharacteristic second race on the 125 where he crashed heavily, allowing Matt Hopkins-Talty to claim the overall on the day.”

The impressive result for Carter has now set up what is the making of a showdown for the final round of the Championship. Carter sits in second overall and just 2 points shy of the Championship leader Jed Beaton in the 250F class and 12 points away from Hopkins-Talty in the 125cc category.

Norton, who had an injury cloud hovering over him for the past week put in a consistent effort for 2-2-3 results and a 2nd overall for the round. The result was a confidence boost for the youngster who at round one suffered a mechanical DNF and tough racing in his first major event in the big-wheel 12-u16 years 85cc class. Norton has now catapulted from 11th in the Championship, to a credible 4th and only 4 points from a podium result in the title chase.

Team Manager Glenn Macdonald was pleased with the results and said “It was so good to see Carter really enjoying his race day and doing what he does best so the aim now is to carry that momentum into the final at Albury.” Macdonald went on to add “Norton suffered an injury just a week ago and took a risk racing at Colac, but his determination is admirable. The result was a real boost to his confidence and standings in the Championship so it was a fortunate outcome for him.”
