Dual podiums for Carter at VIC Junior MX Championship opener

The much anticipated Victorian Junior Motocross Championship series opener kicked off on the weekend of 13 & 14 April 2013 and set the tone for the titles chase. Motorex KTM Junior Racing Team members Wayde Carter and Callum Norton were in attendance and ready to tackle their hotly contested classes.

Carter took to the track in both the 13-16 years 100-125cc and 250F classes, ultimately claiming 2nd overall in both classes of racing despite struggling with persistent arm pump.

Carter’s consistency over the weekend ensured a spot on the podium but the young gun was disappointed he was not able to start the series in more dominating form.

“It was tough for me this weekend’ said Carter ‘It’s pretty frustrating knowing I have the speed but couldn’t push it harder, my arm pump was a killer. I am happy to score good points but really keen to come back strong in round two down at Colac.”

Norton had an even tougher start to the series. Norton now steps up to the 12-16 years 85cc class and his first major event in the older age-group on the KTM85SX big-wheel did not go smoothly. Also added to the mix, Norton was returning from a recent knee injury which hampered his preparations.

Under no illusions that the youngster would find it easy to step up to the older age group, Norton scored solid race results but a mechanical DNF in race two hampered his result, means he sits outside the top ten.

“I loved racing the older age group, it’s good to be on the bigger 85’ said Norton ‘It’s a bummer that my bike failed but everyone worked really hard to get me back out there for race three. I can’t thank everyone enough for their help.”

Team Manager Glenn Macdonald was pleased with the weekend but of the view that there is still much needed improvements “We have some homework to do but we as a team are all on the same page, we are here to race, improve where we can and ultimately get results. I have no doubt both riders will be even stronger at round two and look forward to lining up again at Colac.”

Motorex KTM Junior Racing Team would like to thank their sponsors: KTM Australia, Motorex, Michelin, Kustom MX and Bell Helmets. Future results and updates on the junior racing program can be found
