Gillespie claims her sixth consecutive Australian Womenís Motocross Championship podium

GMR Motorex KTM racer Kristy Gillespie has put on an outstanding performance at the Australian Women’s Motocross Championships held at Albury on the weekend of 20 & 21 October, claiming third position and her sixth consecutive national podium.

The 24 year old was solid all weekend, scoring 3-3-4-3-3 results across the five 20 minute motos. The 2012 title went to Meghan Rutledge and second to Mackenzie Tricker.

“I really hoped to score a top five this year,’ said Gillespie ‘there was probably anywhere up to eight girls who could have won a moto here this weekend so to finish in third behind Meghan and Mackenzie is pretty awesome.”

Gillespie holeshot numerous motos during the event with highlights including her leading the opening laps of moto four and her battle with Tayla Jones.

“The aim was to get good starts and hang with Meghan and Mackenzie as long as possible. I knew my fitness was good so lasting the 20 minutes at pace was no worries.  I had a really close battle with Tayla in one of the motos as well so it was really good racing this weekend.’

Gillespie went on to add “I just really want to thank my team and all the sponsors, I have been on the podium every year with GMR Motorex KTM backing me – thank you. Also to my awesome family and friends who support me, I can’t thank you enough.”

Team Manager Glenn Macdonald was yet again very proud of Gillespie and her performance “Kristy rode so well, her fitness was excellent and her technique on the bike was really impressive in some of the circuit’s technical sections. To be honest, I thought Kristy was more than capable of another podium this year but also expected that there may have been more of a breakaway by the front runners. Kristy hung in their strong and within reach, riding smart and solid all weekend. She really deserved another podium position. Well done Kristy.”

The third overall at the nationals adds to Kristy’s already impressive list of results with 2012 marking not only her sixth consecutive podium at the Championship, two of which were wins, but also her seventh straight win at the Victorian Women’s State Motocross Championships.
