Australian Junior Motocross Championships Ė 3.10.12 Review

On a warm sunny day at Coolum, GMR Motorex KTM racers continued their campaign at the Australian Junior Motocross Championships at Coolum in Queensland on 3 October 2012. The track had finally dried out in sections and despite earlier wet and boggy conditions, track officials began watering parts of the circuit.

Callum Norton was the first team member on the track today in the 9-u12 years 85cc. Norton rode a solid race, placing 2nd in his round three heat draw. Norton has qualified for the finals in 5th on combined heat scores.

In the 12-u14 85cc category Reece Rayner won his heat draw in the third round of heats, while Mitch Evans scored another solid 2nd. Rayner has qualified for the finals in 4th, and Evans in 2nd.

Next, we saw Egan Mastin and Wayde Carter in round three heats, draw one for the 13-u15 years 100-150cc. Carter scored 4th while Mastin scored 6th. In heat draw two, Evans flipped his bike off the start, remounting a considerable way behind the field and rode to 8th position, while Rayner placed 13th.  Carter has qualified in 5th, Mastin in 8th, Evans in 16th and Rayner 25th.

In the 13-u15 years 250F class, Mastin and Carter competed in the second of five finals. Carter rode strong, battling arm pump for 3rd and Mastin raced to 16th after a huge crash in turn one. Mastin charged from at least half a lap down on the rear of the field to 16th, battling with an arm injury sustained in an earlier race as well as soreness from the turn one crash which saw him run over several times.

Day four of racing will see a renewed approach, with all finals racing to commence in all classes. Good luck guys!
