Australian Junior Motocross Championships Ė 1.10.12 Review

GMR Motorex KTM racers commenced their respective campaigns at the Australian Junior Motocross Championships at Coolum in Queensland on 1 October 2012.

After significant rain, the track became boggy and difficult to negotiate after near perfect conditions during practice the day earlier.

Mitchell Evans put in a great performance in the 12-u14 years 85cc, leading his heat until a small crash toward the end of the race relegated him to 2nd. Reece Rayner contested the second heat in this class, also placing 2nd.

In the 13-u15 years 100-150cc, during heavy rain, four team members took to the line. Egan Mastin and Mitch Evans drew heat one, with Mastin taking line honours despite a first turn crash with Evans in 16th. In heat two Reece Rayner and Wayde Carter had great starts, only to be caught in a first turn pile up. Both riders remounted well behind the field. Carter charged hard to place 5th and Rayner placed 15th.

In the 9-u12 years 85cc, Callum Norton was in well placed but came into contact with a lapped rider. Norton had difficulties restarting but put in a solid effort for 4th place.

Tomorrow will see more heat racing as well as the first of the finals in the 11-13 years 65cc (Norton) and 13-u15 years 250F (Mastin and Carter).
