Outstanding form sees Egan Mastin in podium contention for QLD Sunshine State Series overall

Round five of the Sunshine State Series converged on the Echo Valley circuit in Toowoomba, QLD on 5 May and saw Egan Mastin’s impressive form continue.

Mastin claimed second in both classes at round four of the series at Coolum and was aiming to go one further and claim the double-win at Echo Valley after his impressive form at the MX Nationals a week earlier.

Mastin went on to take the win in the 13-14 years 250F class at Echo Valley, and second in the 13-u16 years 125-150cc category, missing the overall in that class by just one point.

“Toowoomba was a good one for me,” said Mastin ‘the win on the 250SXF was sweet. I would have liked the win on both bikes but the crash in race one on the KTM150SX stopped that. I kept pushing hard to the end so even with a 6th I felt I rode really good.”

Mitch Evans, who was placed second overall in the series in the 12-u16 years Mini Lites did not compete at the event, his absence leaving podium contention wide open in this class. Fellow team mate Reece Rayner meanwhile was hoping to improve on his recent performances and felt comfortable on the hilly circuit, showing improved starts and pace.

“I felt I had a pretty good round at Toowoomba. I had better starts and was able to pick up consistent top five results and a 5th overall for the round.”

Team Manager Glenn Macdonald said of the performances “Egan’s results of 1-2-1 gave him the overall on the KTM250SXF and in the two-stroke class a small mistake was made when he lost the front end in race one, placing 6th. He then backed up that result with two race wins to secure 2nd overall for the round. He is now well positioned for podium contention in both classes for the series, despite crashing out of an earlier round.’

Macdonald continued “We saw Reece with some better starts at Toowoomba and consistent top five results in the Mini Lites with 4-5-5 finishes and we are looking forward to how he performs next weekend at round two of the Victorian Motocross Championships.”
