Gillespie claims round one honours at Victorian MX Championship

The Victorian Senior Motocross Championships kicked into action on 17 March at the Wonthaggi circuit, with Kristy Gillespie taking round one honours in her title campaign. The track boasted wet and loamy conditions in the morning, which dried out and became whooped out as the day progressed.

The GMR Motorex KTM racer is the reigning Victorian State Motocross Champion and in 2012 will be vying for her 7th consecutive Championship in the senior Women’s Expert class on board her KTM250SXF.

“It was good to get the round win at Wonthaggi but it looks like this is going to be a tough series’ said Gillespie. ‘There are several girls entered for the series who are capable of moto wins, but I plan to score as many race wins as I can and defend my title. Let’s see if we can make it 7 in a row!”

Team Manager Glenn Macdonald said “This was a great start to Kristy’s campaign to defend her title but the racing was extremely close in a couple of motos. Kristy claimed race one and four by over 10 seconds, moto two by the narrowest of margins over Tayla Jones, with Tayla taking the race three win by just .3 of a second. Kristy’s combined race results gave her the overall for the event and leads the series by six points. Kristy has won many titles so her experience will really count this year.”
