Kristy Gillespie returns in 2012 with GMR Motorex KTM

Long-term KTM racer and multi-Australian Women’s motocross champion Kristy Gillespie will return in season 2012, signing with GMR Motorex KTM Racing Team for the fifth consecutive year.

Gillespie was the 2011 runner-up in the Australian Women’s Motocross Championship and collected her sixth straight Victorian State Championship is aiming for continued podium results at a State and National level.

“The 2011 season had some really tough racing, there are some new faces on the start line which is great’ said Gillespie ‘ It means that we all need to keep stepping it up if we want to be on the podium and that’s what I plan to do this season.”

Gillespie, who is renowned for her promotion and support of women in motocross which includes regular school visits, has expanded her role in the sport with her recent appointment on the Motorcycling Victoria Coaching Panel. As an accredited Level 1 coach, Gillespie hopes to bring ideas to the table that not only help to improve coaching practices generally, but also the participation of women as riders and coaches.

“I have really enjoyed giving back to the sport by attending primary schools for Motorcycling Victoria. It’s a great way to help raise awareness of our sport so when an opportunity came up to also be on the coaching panel I thought it was another way to support the industry.”

GMR Motorex KTM Team Manager Glenn Macdonald says the re-signing of Gillespie is natural given her continued outstanding results and commitment to the sport. “We are really pleased to be able to support Kristy again this season’ said Macdonald ‘she has proven time and again that she can dig deep and continue to be a real contender at a National level. Kristy also has a real commitment to giving back to the sport and that is something to be admired. Team Management and all of our associated sponsors are very pleased to support Kristy again in 2012.”

Kristy Gillespie has competed in her first two major events of the season at the Horsham Invitational and Wonthaggi Masters, claiming the overall on both occasions in the Women’s Class.
