GMR Motorex KTM racers Norton & Carter victorious at season opener

The Warrnambool Open in south-west Victoria was the motocross season opener for Callum Norton and Wayde Carter on 28 & 29 January 2012. The event was also Wayde Carter’s first race event with GMR Motorex KTM Racing Team, scoring two impressive podium results.

In the 9-u12 years 85cc class, Norton took the win overall “It was great to pick up a win in the first event of the year!” said Callum.

Team Manager Glenn Macdonald added “Callum has picked up from where he left off in season 2011 in dominating form taking five straight wins at the event. The event was a great way to get some race starts under his belt and work on some technique that is going to make him an even stronger racer in 2012.”

The event was a great start to Carter’s season with his new race team scoring a win overall in the 13-u16 years 150cc, and a second in the 250F class.

“The 150 this weekend was just perfect, it is such a fast bike and I am really enjoying racing the two-stroke,’ said Carter ‘The 250SXF has been unreal. I won moto one but unfortunately we had some mechanical troubles in moto two while I was leading but I was still able to bring home third. We got that all fixed up and I won the next couple of motos, but had a small crash while leading the final race. Placing second in that last race meant second overall for the event. All in all, even though a win on the 250 would have been awesome, it was a pretty good start to the year with my new team with two podiums so I am pretty happy right now.”

Macdonald continued “Wayde did a great job in his debut with the team proving how well he has adapted to the KTM machines. He took five straight race wins on board the KTM150SX and won his races convincingly to take the win overall. The mechanical issue on his KTM250SXF was unfortunate, but credit to Wayde and his father the bike ran flawlessly for the remainder of the event. After a couple of race wins, Wayde secured an impressive second overall for the event in the 250F class.”

“Both riders have had a great start to 2012 and we are certainly looking forward to the race season kicking into full swing.”
