Scott Mann impressive in Supercross debut despite misfortune in the mud

The 2011 Monster Energy Super X kicked off on 22 October at Knights Stadium, Melbourne in an event that boasted rain, hail storms and mud.

The event was Scott Mann’s first Supercross outing, only having three weeks since the Australian Junior Nationals to fine tune his training program.

“It was definitely the slipperiest track I have ever ridden!’ said an enthusiastic Mann ‘I was pretty happy with how I rode through qualifying and in the heats and it was all going really well in the final. I didn’t have an ideal start but was moving through the field pretty quickly. I was well placed in third but the conditions got me and I crashed. I finished ninth for the final at Melbourne but I have some good preparations lined up for this week and I am really looking forward to round two at Wollongong next weekend.”

Team Manager Glenn Macdonald said after the event “Scott put in a great effort in his first Supercross. We were well positioned heading into the final, having qualified in third and were aiming for a podium result. The massive hail storm that hit just prior to the final basically destroyed the track and it was simply a matter of survival. Having said that, after a less than perfect start, Scott made his way from around ninth out of turn one and quickly made his way up into third where he was positioned for much of the race. Unfortunately he crashed in a deep muddy corner with a lap or so to go but managed to salvage a commendable ninth place.’

“The focus will now be on getting a handle of the tracks at the next four rounds of Super X as quickly as possible, get some solid qualifying results and bring home the results we all know Scott is capable of. I have got no doubt we will see him on the podium this series.”
