GMR Motorex KTM racers score solid results in finals competition at Australian Junior MX Championships

GMR Motorex KTM racers scored solid results in the finals program at the 2011 Australian Junior Motocross Championships, including three race wins, despite the wet and muddy conditions.

Callum Norton and Reece Rayner kicked off proceedings for the team in the 9-u12 years 85cc class with a devastating blow for Rayner on the start straight when he was collected by another rider in the sloppy conditions. The crash caused a knock to the head however Rayner managed to ride the race to the chequers but was unable to score any points. Norton meanwhile had moved through the field to claim second position.

In the 12-u14 years 85cc all three GMR Motorex KTM racers Egan Mastin, Mitch Evans and Andy Dinicol lined up for the final, each taking varied approaches to starting gate positions. Mastin quickly moved into the lead while Evans sat in 6th in the early stages of the race. Unfortunately a mechanical issue hampered Dinicol’s run with a DNF. Mastin went on to take a convincing win, while Evans moved through to score 3rd place.

Scott Mann was up next in the 15 years 100-150cc class and after a solid charge through the field placed an impressive 2nd place.

Norton then tackled the track in the 9-u12 years 65cc class. After a difficult start, Norton had charged through the field and took the lead, until a red flag situation stopped racing. On the re-start, Norton’s start was solid, moving into the lead quickly to ultimately take the race win.

Mastin then contested the 13-u15 years 100-150cc class during heavy rain. Mastin had a great start and raced within the top five, and despite a small crash mid-race claimed 5th place against stiff competition.
Rayner, who had recovered well from his earlier crash on the 85cc took to the track in the third final in the 11-u13 years 65cc class. After a less than perfect start and a crash in turn two Rayner made his way to 4th place.  Rayner is now placed 3rd overall in the Championship chase.

Scott Mann was the final race of the day for the team and was keen to get a win to kick off his title hopes in 15 years 250F class. After a good start, by mid-first lap Mann was in the lead and rode a solid race to take the win.

“Day five of the Junior Nationals was a real challenge for many riders given the wet and sloppy conditions, particularly on the start straight’ said Team Manager Glenn Macdonald ‘unfortunately, it claimed our young Reece Rayner in the 9-u12 years 85cc class when another rider collided with him but we are lucky he escaped uninjured. Rayner will now focus on getting the best possible results in the remaining races. We have scored some great results in the finals campaign so far collecting three finals wins. With another two rounds of finals to come, we are definitely keeping focus on the big picture.”
