Racing underway for GMR Motorex KTM racers at Australian Junior MX Championships

Under clear blue skies at Murray Bridge in South Australia, the racing program of the 2011 Australian Junior Motocross Championships kicked into full swing. All six of the GMR Motorex KTM racing contingent began their qualification races and put in some solid performances throughout the day.

The 12-u14 years 85cc was the first race of the day, with Mitchell Evans (QLD) drawn in heat one. Evans crashed in the opening stages of the race, but made a very impressive comeback to claim 6th position. Egan Mastin (NSW) and Andy Dinicol (VIC) both drew heat two, with Mastin taking a convincing win. Dinicol was also riding well considering his recent injury and while in around 5th position crashed, relegating him down the order. Another two heat races remain.

Scott Mann (QLD) drew heat one of the 15 years 100-150cc. Mann ran in second position for much of the race, coming through for the race win at the chequers.

In the 9-u12 years 65cc class, Callum Norton (VIC) was also on pace early, taking the heat one win.

Mastin and Dinicol again drew alongside each other, this time in heat one of the 13-u15 years 100-150cc class with Mastin in the top five when he crashed. Dinicol meanwhile didn’t have the best of starts. Results for this race were unavailable at the time of report.

Reece Rayner (QLD) and Norton drew heat two of the 9-u12 years 85cc class and were on pace early but a red flag incident required a re-start of the race. Both riders had reasonable starts and moved through the field quickly for rayner to take the win, with Norton in second.

Scott Mann was the final race of the day for the team, with the track conditions getting extremely rough and dusty. Mann drew heat one of the 15 years 250F class and had moved through the field into a solid top three position. Unfortunately Mann crashed heavily and was unable to restart the bike, finishing well down the order.

Team Manager Glenn Macdonald reflected on the day and said “Day two at the Junior Nationals was a solid start to our campaign and we saw our riders take four qualifying race wins. We had a few ups and downs, but it is very early days in the week-long event. Our riders are showing good speed so far and we are slowly dialing into the circuit. Everyone is really looking forward to getting through the qualifying process and into the finals.”

Rayner will commence his finals campaign in the 11-u13 years 65cc class tomorrow, with all riders including Rayner continuing on with their qualifying races in their respective classes.
