Rayner and Evans take three class wins in muddy conditions at QLD Sunshine State Series, Bundaberg

GMR Motorex KTM racers Reece Rayner and Mitch Evans took three class wins at round six of the Sunshine State Series at Bundaberg QLD, while Rayner also moved into the series lead in the 9-u12 years 85cc-150F class.

Conditions were extremely muddy at Bundaberg, with some racing cancelled due to the inability of many to complete the circuit.

“Racing was really tough this weekend’ said Rayner. ‘It was just so wet and muddy, but I was able to keep momentum and get good results. I placed 1-2 in my 85cc class which means I lead the series now, and I won the 65 class on the day so I still lead that class as well.”

Mitchell Evans continues to collect consistent podium results in the 12-u16 years 85cc-150F class and maintains second overall in the series standings after taking the win at Bundaberg.

Evans said “I had a crash in the first race of the day and I finished 5th, but in the second race I just went for it and got the win which meant I won the overall for the day. I was fairly tough out there but heaps of fun in the mud!”

Team Manager Glenn Macdonald said “Reece Rayner and Mitchell Evans are continuing to perform well in this series. Reece now leads both the 9-u12 years 65cc and 85cc-150F classes which is fantastic. Reece started out in 10th position after the opening round in the 85’s and has now taken the series lead. He has put in some top performances and the results are now showing what he is capable of.’

“Reece will miss a round of the series due to his attendance at the FIM World Junior Motocross Championships in Italy on the 65cc. But with any luck, Reece will still be in with a shot for a podium result for the series in both classes. We are very proud of the fact that he has dug deep and now leaves for Italy on a high leading two classes in this tough series.’

Macdonald added “Mitch continues to consistently stand on the podium throughout this series and sits in second overall in the 12-u16 years 85cc-150F class. His results have been excellent and a win at Bundaberg in the tough conditions was a great achievement.’

“Mitch will also be heading to the FIM World Junior Motocross Championships in a few weeks time for the 85cc class. He placed 6th at the event last year in France in the 65cc category and we are certainly looking forward to seeing him compete on the bigger bike.”
