Norton & Mastin claim three NSW Championships with GMR Motorex KTM

11-07-11

The New South Wales Motocross Championships came to their conclusion on 8 & 9 July 2011 at Nowra, with Callum Norton and Egan Mastin winning three of a possible four Championships.

Callum Norton won both the 9-u12 years 65cc and 85cc classes at round two of the Championship at Maitland and came into the final round of the Championship at Nowra leading both classes. The Victorian based racer had a tough round of racing at Nowra, but did enough to secure the Championship in both classes.

“I had an up and down event this weekend but I was still able to win both classes’ said Norton ‘I’m really happy and want to thank my family, GMR Motorex KTM and all our awesome sponsors.”

Team Manager Glenn Macdonald said of the result “I am really stoked for Callum. To take the double in the 65 and 85cc classes is a top effort and with another year left in this age group it really does prove he is a strong racer. Callum is also leading both classes in the Victorian Motocross Championship which will be decided in a few weeks so it’s exciting times for the young gun.”

Egan Mastin took the win in the 12-13 years 85cc class at Maitland and second overall for the 13-14 years 125-150cc class and came into the deciding round of the Championship at Nowra leading his 85cc class and second, just two points shy of the lead in the 125-150cc class

Egan Mastin went on to take the round win at Nowra on the 85cc and took the Championship overall making it back to back championships for the 13 year old. In the 125-150cc class, Egan put in a determined performance to claim second overall for the day and second in the Championship overall.

“I’m pumped to win the 85 title again this year’ said Mastin ‘I was in the running for the 125-150cc title as well but it didn’t work out. It’s my first year on the KTM150SX so finishing second was pretty good. I will definitely be aiming for that title next year. Thanks a lot to my family and my team and all our sponsors for the support.”

A very proud Macdonald said “Egan put in an impressive showing in both the 85c and 125-150cc classes in this Championship and the 85cc win makes it back-to-back titles. He came close to taking the title on the bigger bike also, but I am really proud of his runner-up result particularly given that this is his first season. Egan is a strong talent and we can expect to see some great racing and results from Egan in the future.”

GMR Motorex KTM racers were in Championship contention in all four classes contested at the NSW Championships, ultimately claiming three Championship wins and runner-up in the fourth.
