Victorian Motocross Championship penultimate round delivers two podiums and personal achievements for GMR Motorex KTM racers

Callum Norton and Andy Dinicol took to the sandy circuit at Rosebud for the penultimate round of the Victorian Junior Motocross Championships on 18 & 19 June 2011.

Callum Norton, GMR Motorex KTM Support Rider took second in the 9-u12 years 65 and won the 9-u12 years 85cc-150F class and retains his Championship lead in both classes. Norton is the reigning 65cc Victorian Champion and hopes to make it back-to-back titles.

Norton said after the event “I had a couple of bad races, one on each bike and won all the others. I got equal points for the overall in the 85’s and won it on count-back. I missed the overall on the day by just one point on the 65. I lead both classes heading into the final round of the series so I am looking forward to Albury and hopefully get some more good results.”

Andy Dinicol finished with two personal-bests for the Championship so far, scoring 5th overall in both the 12-u16 years 85cc-150F and 13-u16 years 125-150cc classes on the challenging sandy circuit.

“I am really happy with the result, picking up two 5th places overall’ said Dinicol. ‘It was a tough start to the series for me at Cobram but each round I am getting faster and higher up the points. There were a few races this weekend where even though I didn’t get the best start, I was coming through the field and even starting to reel in the front pack. A highlight for me was an 85 race where I crashed, then caught back up to then have a big battle with Jed Beaton. It was good racing.”

Team Manager Glenn Macdonald said in review, “the sandy Rosebud circuit proved challenging for many riders this weekend and also claimed both Callum and Andy throughout the course of the event.’

“Callum again stood on the podium in both the 65cc and 85cc small wheel class despite having a bad race on each. Callum maintains his Championship lead in both classes heading into the final round at Albury-Wodonga in a few weeks time but we are under no illusions that his competitors will be seeking the main prize.”

“I am really proud of Andy’s performance at Rosebud. He came into the event carrying a niggling injury but kept his focus and charged hard to the end in the tough conditions. The two 5th place results on the 85cc big-wheel and his KTM150SX were his best performances to date in the Championship which was a great achievement.”
