GMR Motorex KTM racers Mastin & Norton continue impressive form at NSW Motocross Championships

Callum Norton and Egan Mastin both attended round two of the NSW Motocross Championships on 11 & 12 June 2011 at Maitland, NSW and in tough conditions scored three class wins.

With the track taking a soaking of over 45ml of rain it made for wet and sloppy conditions, and was a matter of survival for many riders.

The GMR Motorex KTM racers took to the conditions well, with Callum Norton winning both the 9-u12 years 65cc and 85cc classes while Egan Mastin took the win in the 12-13 years 85cc-150F and second overall for the 13-14 years 125-150cc class.

Official overall results have yet to be published at time of release, but it is understood that Callum Norton retains his Championship lead in the 9-u12 years  65cc, and now leads the 85cc class while Egan Mastin retains his Championship lead in the 12-13 years 85cc-150F, and just a few points shy of the lead in the 125-150cc class. This sees the GMR Motorex KTM racers in Championship contention in all four classes heading into the final round of racing scheduled for 9 & 10 July at Nowra.

“I am really happy to take the win in both classes’ said Norton “The track was sweet on Saturday, loamy which I like, but on Sunday it was just wet and muddy but I was still keen as to race. I got good starts and just went for it. I won every race on both bikes so I couldn’t ask for much more than that. The conditions were tough too, so it’s a good feeling.”
Egan Mastin reflected on his results and said “In the 85 class I won all three races which gave me the overall. It means I have a bit of a points lead in the Championship too. In the 125-150 class I got second for the round at Maitland and I think I am only a few points off the lead for the title. It was super muddy, so it was a matter of just staying upright and getting as many points as I could so I am happy with the result.”
Team Manager Glenn Macdonald was extremely pleased with their performance and added “The boys showed great form this weekend and their results were fantastic. The results also proved that they are ultra competitive in tough conditions and although official points tallies are not yet available, it looks like they both walked away leading the Championship in three of four classes they are contesting and runner-up in the fourth. I am extremely proud of their efforts.’

“We have one more round of racing scheduled for mid-July at Nowra, so I am looking forward to seeing the boys bring home some top results.”

Callum Norton will be next competing at round three of the Victorian Junior Motocross Championships at Rosebud on 18 & 19 June.
