Kristy Gillespie maintains VIC Championship lead in an eventful penultimate round

The penultimate round of the Victorian Senior Motocross Championships was run at Swan Hill on 11 & 12 June 2011 and in an eventful day of racing in the Women’s class, GMR Motorex KTM racer Kristy Gillespie claimed second overall for the round of racing.

Gillespie is the reigning Victorian Women’s Motocross Champion having won the title for five consecutive years and was unbeaten in the series until a passing move by a fellow competitor took them both down in the final moto. With one round remaining, Kristy holds a 19 point lead in the Championship and hopes to wrap up yet another title.

“Things were going really well this weekend’ said Gillespie ‘ I was on the way to winning all three motos for the round win at Swan Hill but a desperate move by another rider took both of us down. I still managed to finish 6th for the race. The result put me on equal points for the round win, but on count-back I got second for the day.’

“I was aiming to keep the winning streak, so I am not happy about it. I will just keep focused on the Championship and make sure that I bring home that number one plate at the final round.”

Team Manager said of the result “Kristy maintains her Championship lead by 19 points and with one round to go is looking well positioned to bring home another number one plate. I understand how frustrated Kristy felt about the crash in the final moto but ultimately, we need to keep focus on another title. Kristy knows how to win Championships and she won’t go down without a fight.”
