Gillespie and Norton on the gas at Miora Murray River Masters, Cobram

The Miora Murray River Masters was held at Cobram in northern Victoria on 12 & 13 March and saw both Kristy Gillespie and Callum Norton put in solid performances.

Despite a women’s class not being available, Gillespie was keen to step up her race-training and contested the B Grade Lites on her KTM 250SXF on the technical, rutted circuit. Gillespie was in the mix in the combined A and B grade class and ultimately placed 4th overall in her class.

“I rode pretty good’ said Gillespie “The track was really technical on the first day with heaps of ruts through the corners which was awesome. It got a bit dry and dusty as the event wore on but all in all I am pretty happy with the result.”

Meanwhile, support rider Callum Norton didn’t have it all his own way in the 7-u13 years 65cc and 9-u12 years 85cc classes. Some hot on-track competition and a snapped chain hampered Norton’s overall result despite posting some of the classes’ quickest lap times. Norton placed 2nd overall in the 65cc class and 3rd overall in the small wheel 85's.

Team Manager Glenn Macdonald said “Gillespie has picked up a solid result at Cobram, topping off a great weekend having just won the prestigious Norske Skog Young Achiever of the Year Award. Kristy will continue to compete in Open events, in both the women’s and combined B Grade Lites in preparation for her 2011 titles chase.”

“Young Callum had a rocky weekend but he did post some super fast lap times, had tough battles out on the track and also suffered a snapped chain in one moto. This is the nature of the sport and a lot was learnt this weekend, making him a stronger competitor for the championships ahead.”
