Kristy Gillespie wins fifth Victorian State Motocross Championship

On 15 August 2010, GMR Motorex KTM racer Kristy Gillespie claimed her fifth consecutive Victorian State Motocross Championship. The final of the four round series was held at the sandy Rosebud circuit, after heavy rains hampered the scheduled venue at Broadford.

Gillespie  entered the round leading the Championship, however a crash while training during the week leading up to the event saw Kristy in hospital, but managed to ride with a focus to stay upright and collect points. Gillespie placed 2nd and 3rd in races one and two, then took the win in the final moto by 27 seconds to secure her 5th state championship

“I am really happy to win my fifth state title. Things were a bit hectic during the week because I crashed while training and I wasn’t even sure I was going to be able to race. Things got even more challenging because the event venue was changed from Broadford to Rosebud due to weather conditions, so I had to focus on riding deep heavy sand.

“I placed 2nd and 3rd in my first two races, and then pretty much just went for it in the last one because I needed only a few points to win the title. I raced well considering and took the final moto win, finishing on a high note.

“I want to thank all of my sponsors and supporters, including my family.”

“I am extremely pleased for Kristy and the result she obtained especially given the injuries she suffered leading up to the event’ said Team Manager Glenn Macdonald.

“Kristy has proved again how dominant she is on the women’s circuit and also how tough she is to ride whilst injured to secure her fifth number one plate.

“Congratulations to Kristy, her family and thank you to all of our team sponsors for their support. This result sees Kristy join her fellow GMR Motorex KTM racers Scott Mann and dual title holder Jay Wilson as state champions so far this season.

Kristy’s focus now shifts to her recovery and preparation for her Nationals later this year.”
