Kristy Gillespie maintains Championship lead in Victorian Motocross Titles

GMR Motorex KTM racer Kristy Gillespie compteted in the second round of the Victorian Senior Motocross Titles at Maffra-Sale on 19 & 20 June 2010, picking up yet another podioum finish and consolidated her Championship lead in challenging conditions.

Kristy entered the round leading the Championship after taking a clean sweep at round one in Shepparton, however Maffra-Sale was a wet, rain soaked circuit with muddy with deep ruts. Gillespie played it safe in the Women’s class, bringing home second position.

“My starts really let me down at Maffra-Sale, and I need to work on improving them,” said Gillespie.  “I came together with another rider in turn one in the first moto which left me in last position, and then I came through the field to take the win. In the next two motos the rain was coming down and vision was bad, so I played it safe and picked up two seconds, which gave me enough points to maintain the overall Championship lead.”

“Although Kristy was not as aggressive as usual, she rode smart given the conditions at Maffra-Sale,” said Team Manager Glenn Macdonald.  “Kristy knows how to win Championships and she is getting closer to possibly picking up her fifth consecutive State Title. There is still a lot of racing to go, with another two rounds remaining, so we aim to keep consistent to secure the title.

“In exciting news, Kristy has scored herself another entry in the Pro Lites field at the MX Nationals to be held at Albury-Wodonga , this coming weekend.  Kristy was the first female to ever compete as a wildcard at the same event in 2009, beating a number of the boys home. Kristy is certainly aiming to improve her result from last season and give it her all on the gate against the best Pro Lite racers in the country.”
