Kristy Gillespie dominates Ballarat Open

Kristy Gillespie was on the gas at the Ballarat Rovers Open on 11 & 12 July 09, taking three wins from three starts to claim the overall for the event.

The Ballarat circuit hosted a new layout and on day one was dry and dusty, however overnight rain provided the riders with new challenges on day two of racing and it was Gillespie who continued to dominate despite the conditions.

“The track was pretty good on Saturday, but the wind was gnarly,” said Gillespie. “Then on Saturday night there was a huge down pour of rain which turned the track into tacky, heavy mud. If you backed off the power it just stopped you in your tracks.  Racing on Sunday was a matter of survival.

“I struggled a little in my racing because I have been suffering from the flu this week, but I rested between races and got the job done.

“All in all, I experienced good exposure to the track, and I came home with another win, so I am stoked.”

“Kristy has put in another outstanding performance despite her recent bout of the flu,” said Macdonald. “It is also a great indication of things to come as the venue will soon host a round of the Victorian Motocross Championships where we hope to achieve another number one plate.

“The immediate aim however will be to ensure that Kristy gets plenty of rest in the lead up to round one of the Australian Women’s Championship to be held at Lakes in a fortnights time.”
