Dylan Long wins Murray River Masters in lead up to junior world qualifier

In the lead up to the junior world qualifier event this weekend at Albury-Wodonga, GMR Motorex KTM junior racer Dylan Long from Benalla competed at the Murray River Masters Open at Cobram (VIC), taking an impressive clean sweep in both the 12u-16 years 85cc class, and the 13-u16 years 125-150cc class.

Commenting on his racing Dylan Long said, “In the 85cc class I had an average start from being bogged down in some mud in front of the start gate.  I could see riders getting ahead of me, so I just wrapped the throttle on flat-out, and the power of the KTM 85 SX just passed them all, so I got the holeshot even with an average gate drop.”

Long was also undefeated in the 13-u16 years 125-150cc class, and for the first time this season, Long lined up on board his new KTM 150 SX.

“I won my first 125-150cc race easily, but in race two I didn’t start very well because I am still getting used to the power of the KTM 150 SX. I had to work my way through the pack, but I took the lead with about a lap to go, and claimed the win, added Long.

“The Cobram Racing Club also featured a Dash for Cash format for the juniors at the end of the event, and I entered on my new KTM 150 SX, against the 250F’s.  We had three sprints back-to-back which was awesome fun.  The races were 7 laps, 5 laps and 3 laps, and I won these as well, so I am really happy with my results leading up to the junior world qualifier.”

Team Manager Glenn Macdonald was extremely happy with Dylan’s results “Longy is going from strength to strength at the moment, and he is reaching a state of readiness for the world junior team qualifier at Albury this weekend, said Macdonald.   “His races at Cobram were 12 minute motos, and he took a clean sweep of them all, along with a win in the sprint format which is an awesome achievement. He certainly has the speed and endurance, to be a good contender for the junior world qualifier.”

Dylan Long will next race along with GMR Motorex KTM Racing team mate Jay Wilson at the World Junior Team qualifier at Albury-Wodonga on 4-5 April.  Stay tuned to racing results at and
