Jay Wilson collected two class wins at round four of the hotly contested Sunshine State Series at Toowoomba this weekend in an impressive return to racing and debut with GMR Motorex KTM Racing Team.

Despite suffering injury just days after signing with the factory junior racing team, Wilson displayed maturity and race smarts throughout the day as he became accustomed to his new bikes.

In the 13-14 years Lites class, Wilson collected 2-2-1 for a 1st overall for the event.

“I spent a bit of time on my KTM 250SX-F during the week to run it in. It was my first ride in about 5 weeks and my wrist held up really well. I have been keeping fit with off-bike training while I haven’t been racing which worked really well.”

In the 14-15 years Mini-Lites class Wilson was on fire on board his KTM85SX placing 2-1-1 in his races to secure a 1st place overall for the event.

“I can’t believe how awesome the bikes are straight out of the box. All we did was put the team stickers on, some new handle bars and tuned the suspension and I am already out there winning races! I am so stoked, it’s an unreal feeling” said Wilson.

My goal today was to get some race practice under my belt on my new bikes. The focus now is to be ready for the world junior team qualifier in a couple of weeks.”

Team Manager Glenn Macdonald was extremely proud of his new charger’s results.

“There was no expectation that Jay would walk away with two podiums, let alone two class wins in his first ride with the team and back from injury.

We discussed Jay’s plan of attack for the event and some goals that would help provide a stepping stone into coming weeks. Jay exceeded these goals and on top of that he posted some really impressive lap times.

The results are a real testament to his mature attitude to racing and I am sure there will be more success to come for Jay and GMR Motorex KTM.”

Jay’s next event will be at round one of the MX Nationals at Albury on 4 & 5 April for the Australian World Junior Team qualifier in the 85cc class.
