Dylan Long takes two class wins in debut event with GMR Motorex KTM

Dylan Long made his GMR Motorex KTM Racing Team debut in style last weekend at the Maffra-Sale Open taking two class wins in both the 12-u16 years 85cc-150F and 13-u16 years 125cc-150cc two-stroke classes.

The 85cc charger struggled off the line in race one and proved just how well he has adapted to the KTM 85SX by blitzing his way through the field to win. Race two and three came with much better starts and Long scored another two convincing wins, on one occasion by around 20 seconds.

In the 125cc-150cc two-stroke class, Long was untouchable in race one and two taking another two race wins on board his KTM 125 SX.

“In race three I got an awesome start and was in second place but I hit a kicker which pushed me off the track and I crashed. I dropped back to 5th place and I had to work my way make through the lead pack.  I made my way up to 2nd, just behind the leader by the chequered flag but just ran out of time to make the pass.” The 1-1-2 results secured a 1st overall.

Team Manager Glenn Macdonald said “I am really impressed with Dylan’s start to the season and is definitely a sign of things to come with our new recruit.”

Kristy Gillespie also rode at the event in the senior women’s racing. Despite struggling with poor starts, Gillespie worked her way through the pack to win all three races for the day.

Gillespie said “I haven’t raced for a while and this was my first race of the season so I was riding a bit tight. I know where I need to improve, particularly in my starts and race fitness but I also came away knowing that my aggression is right where I want it.”

The next race meeting for Long and Gillespie will be a local Victorian regional event at the Albury-Wodonga circuit which will host the opening round of the senior MX Nationals and World Junior qualifying in April.

Stay tuned to for race team updates.
