Kristy Gillespie nominated for prestigious young achiever award


GMR Motorex KTM racer Kristy Gillespie has been nominated for yet another prestigious award. This time, the reigning Australian motocross champion is a nominee for the 2009 Norske Skog Young Achiever Award.

Gillespie is in the running to win the $1000 prize on offer for the region’s most promising junior sports person. There will be 12 nominees honoured during an awards dinner in March where the winner will be announced.

The award is aimed at identifying young athletes between the ages of 15 and 21 who achieved excellence in 2008.

Gillespie is being recognized for her amazing achievements in 2008 which included winning both the Australian and Victorian Women’s Motocross Championship, being nominated for the Vic Sport Female Athlete of the Year as well as collecting the Australasian Dirt Bike Magazine readers’ choice award in the Women’s Category.

Previous winners of the Young Achiever Award in the Albury region include world champion pole vaulter Emma George, basketball superstar Lauren Jackson and wheelchair basketballer Ben Cooper.
