Duncanson dominates at QLD Stadium Motocross series opener

13-01-09

GMR Motorex KTM racer Sam Duncanson from Cleveland started his 2009 racing calendar off on a high, winning round one of the Junior Lites 15 years class at the Queensland Stadium Motocross Series held in Toowoomba.

Riding the KTM 250SX-F, Duncanson dominated the 20 rider line up, to take the top podium position for GMR Motorex KTM, ahead of Jack Robertson on a Honda and Jesse Sutherland on a Kawasaki.

Commenting on his racing Duncanson said, “This is just how I wanted to start the season, coming out strong and winning.  The track was pretty technical with big whoops and tight corners, but it still made for great riding half indoors and half outdoors.

“I competed in three races winning all of them.  In the first race I came off the start in second behind Luke Reardon, and I was battling with him for around two laps.    When I tried to jump up the inside of him on a big table top, I hit a kicker and came up short on the front wheel, sending me straight off the berm into hay bails.  By the time I got back up I was in third position, and quickly passed the second place rider.  Luke Reardon had a big lead on me but he crashed and I caught up right behind him.   Luke crashed again when I put a move on him up the inside of a turn, so I then pulled a gap and rode home with the win.

“In the second race my game plan was to get the holeshot, but I had an outside gate (#19) and with 15 guys on the inside of me everything didn’t go to plan.  There was a rider pile up, and I got caught up in it pushing me back to last place.  Thankfully the speed I worked up on the KTM 250 SX-F got me into first by the second lap and my determination to finish with a big gap worked.

“The final race started much the same as the second moto, but this time I made it around the corner weaving past the guys on the ground.  I was in around 12th, and worked my way through the field into second, passing the race leader in the whoops to gain a massive lead, and I lapped heaps of riders by the end of the race.

“The suspension set up on the KTM 250 SX-F worked awesome for me, and I’ll definitely be using this set up for the second round at Carrara Stadium on Saturday, January 17 for round two of the series.”

Sam Duncanson will be joined by the senior Motorex KTM Racing Team at the Carrara Stadium Motocross with the likes of Tye Simmonds, Kade Mosig and Jason Reed entered to compete in their respective classes.  The event will feature over 16 classes of racing, plus a freestyle show.  Ticket entry is $30 per adult and $20 per child.
