GMR Motorex KTM Racing Team Season Wrap-up

16-11-08

It has been a huge year for the GMR Motorex KTM Racing Team and as the racing season for 2008 winds down, Team Manager Glenn Macdonald has taken some time out to reflect on the year that has been and with eight #1 plates on the team mantle for 2008 – there are many highlights…

“The team has done an absolutely incredible job this season. Each and every one of our six riders has stood on the podium at either a State and / or National Championship and not many teams see such extraordinary results.

The team picked up three National championships. Kristy Gillespie finally shook the #3 tag and secured the Women’s title while Dylan Berwick and Sam Duncanson took the spoils in the 13-14 years 125 and 250F classes respectively at what was arguable the toughest Australian Junior Motocross Championship we have seen in many years. On top on that, we secured 5 State Championships along the way with Jason Reed, Joben Baldwin, Duncanson and Gillespie. Young gun Jesse Dobson also secured a 3rd in both the Queensland State and the National Championships in the hot 9-u12 years 85cc class. Here is a run down:

1st   NSW Junior Motocross Championships 15 yrs 250F (Jason Reed)

3rd   Queensland Junior Motocross Championships 9-u12 years 85cc (Jesse Dobson)

We have also had a number of other highlights, such as Kristy Gillespie being nominated for Victorian Women’s Athlete of the year. Kristy was up against Olympians Leisel Jones and Jacqui Cooper so the competition was tough. Although Kristy didn’t pick up the award, to be nominated in an Olympic year as a female motocross racer is something we are all extremely proud of. Kristy Gillespie and Jason Reed have also been nominated for the ADB Magazine Readers Choice Awards in the Women’s and Junior categories respectively.

Looking ahead, we are in the final stages of establishing our rider line up for the 2009 racing season and are really looking forward to the year to come. We will again be out in force, representing KTM across the country in 2009 in Arenacross, Supercross, Motocross and Off-road racing. There will be some changes install for the GMR Motorex KTM line-up and I am sure that we will be just as successful and dominant as we were in 2008.

I would personally, and on behalf of the whole team, like to thank all of our incredible sponsors who have provided top shelf product and support to help the team achieve: Jeff Leisk and the whole crew at KTM Australia, Motorex Oils, KTM Powerwear and KTM Powerparts, Michelin, Thor, One Industries helmets, Scott, Ringmaster Images, Globe, DID, NGK, Tag handlebars, Unior tools, Talon and all of the families and fans of the team for your ongoing support and encouragement."
