GMR Motorex KTM dominate at opening round of NSW State Championships

03-07-08

On 28 & 29 June, GMR Motorex KTM riders Sam Duncanson, Cleveland (QLD) and Jason Reed, Maitland (NSW) contested round one of the NSW Junior Motocross Championships at Clarence, NSW.

Brisbane based Sam Duncanson was keen to get stuck into a full Championship series after injury ruled him out of his home state junior titles and the Rookies series and made a huge impact at the event. Jason Reed, in his home state Championship, was wrapped to have his fellow team member by his side and the two GMR Motorex KTM riders were focused and determined after their recent success at the Rookies Series.

Saturday Racing:

In the 125cc 13-u15 years class, Sam Duncanson picked up 1-1-1 results which secured a 1st place for the round and series standings.

The Queenslander struggled with the concrete starts at the Clarence circuit but soon charged through the field to take three straight wins on board his KTM 125cc.

“This is the first time that I have been to Clarence and it’s a really good track, I enjoyed racing here a lot.”

Sunday Racing:

In the 250F 13-u15 years class, Sam Duncanson picked up 1-3-2 results which secured a 2nd place for the round and series standings.

Sam again struggled with his concrete starts in Sunday’s racing on board his KTM 250 SX-F. Sam showed real speed and despite the poor starts which saw him in mid-pack in the opening stages of each race he quickly carved through the field to reel in the front runners.

Team manager Glenn Macdonald had this to say, “I was so stoked to hear that the boys had done so well at the opening round of the NSW State Championships, let alone how dominant they were.

Jason Reed is proving to be a force and is progressing every time he steps out on the track. He is super-pumped with the package he has with GMR Motorex KTM and the wins he is picking up are just so rewarding for him.

Sam Duncanson is consistently on the podium since his return from injury and his progress is much quicker than expected after such a long time off the bike. The aim is to improve Sam’s on-bike fitness so the rush of podium results so far is a sweet bonus.

As a team manager, to pick up a Women’s National Championship with Kristy Gillespie, a Victorian State Championship for Joben Baldwin and three class wins at the opening round of the NSW State Championships for Jason Reed and Sam Duncanson within a week, I couldn’t ask for anything more.”

The GMR Motorex KTM boys were also a real hit with the crowd who came out to watch the event. Sam and Jason signed GMR Motorex KTM posters, hats and t-shirts. Sam and Jason were also in a video interview which can be accessed through the Dirt Bike Promotions website at www.dirtbikepromotions.com.au
